I really wasn't sure what to do for today's prompt and as it's a uni day I don't often have a lot of time to spend on the photo. So I made it easy for myself and took some photos of the dogs watching the ball and waiting for me to throw it for them. I have the ball up close to my face to get Zimi to look up at the camera - I think his gaze is pretty intense. If you look at his back legs they also look ready to move as soon as the ball leaves my hand. Playing around in Lightroom for different editing effects. This one is a washed vintage with a highlight added; just for a change.

Ride: On A Bike | With Wheels | With Movement
Oops, completely forget to upload this last night. I had the photo saved to drafts so that I could upload it from the laptop in the house but I got sidetracked. I had a phone call from a friend who I haven't heard from in ages. It was just wonderful to catch up. By the time we finished chatting it was quite late and doing my blog completely slipped my mind. So this is my photo for ride - and not a lot of riding going on here. This bike sits on a stand so that Steve can do his cycling programs on it but it did come in handy for the prompt. It's actually featured in a previous daily photo. This email prompt talked about taking photos from a different perspective and not getting all the details in, so I have focussed on the pedal and gears here and taken it from a much lower perspective than normal. Naturally that translates to crawling around on the ground to find a good angle. Off to uni soon and then I'll come home and think about today's prompt - I think it's Intent. I don't have anything in mind at the moment though! Have a wonderful day! A Boy: A Young Man | A Lad | A Son
I think I have all of these covered in this photo. This was taken today when I went to Beenleigh to watch and take photos of Bailey's football game. Justin and Hunter were having a lovely time playing and I managed to get a few photos while the footy players were having their break between quarters. They grow up way too quickly. Candid: Informal | Unposed | Honest Unfortunately there wasn't anyone around today for me to take candid photos, so I've decided to go with a photo from last weekend's get together. The focus in this one isn't the sharpest, but I feel that it captures a spontaneous moment while he was playing and show an obvious enjoyment in what he was doing. It does make me smile. These are some of the photos I did take today. I am keeping up with daily photography, even if it isn't always on topic, although I do aim to stick with the prompt.
Science: Experiment | Systems | Observation Today was one of those days when the prompt just wasn't working for me. So today (or tonight) you have a real life moment instead, but I could class it under Observation I suppose. Observation: Do not drive the ride-on mower down the smallest of inclines when the ground is still damp. If you do, there is a chance that you will not be able to reverse the mower up the hill, as the back wheels cannot get any traction. This is what I did this morning. You can see that there isn't much of an incline. As I was heading down I had a feeling it wasn't a good idea and tried to turn the wheel to head further down the hill, but the garden bed got in the way. I tried reversing, but nothing was happening with the back wheels - actually the left one wasn't gripping the ground at all. Hence I became stuck. Not being particularly strong (actually not at all strong) I had no hope of pushing or pulling the mower away from the garden bed, although I tried several times. Thank goodness I have a great next door neighbour who works from home and who came over and rescued me. This is an iPhone photo that I sent to my hubby just after I got stuck. His response: "very cute picture". Not helpful Steve :-) Friday night already. Where do the days go to? I'm planning a quiet one tonight. I don't have to cook as I had some left overs in the freezer, which I took out, and then it's me, the dark chocolate and NCIS.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend planned! Progress: Change | Improvement | Advance
This road upgrade near our turnoff is to turn the current two lanes into a four lane highway. At a cost of 24 million AUD and some 15 months of roadworks I'm not convinced it's money well spent as there are other spots that really would benefit from upgrades. I suppose it is progress, but I really did prefer the hills and trees. I probably should have taken a before shot before they started so that I had something to remember what it used to be like, but I didn't. This will have to suffice. It's funny how quickly it will all become the new normal and we'll have forgotten the previous road. Action: Movement | Activity | Doing Seeing that it was such a beautiful sunny day, albeit cold for me, I thought it would be a good opportunity to try and capture the cockatoos in flight. Of course, none of them wanted to cooperate with me. I also took a few photos of the dogs chasing after the ball, but none of those really appealed to me. So it was back to the cockatoos. I had to laugh at this one who was walking along the fence railing and jumped down to the next level. Why fly when one can jump? I took a huge number of photos of a pair of cockatoos that were hanging around eating, and it was a case of hoping for the best when I uploaded the photos onto the computer. I was using my telephoto zoom on continuous shooting and automatic focus to try and capture the movement of the bird's wings as it was flying. Thankfully not all were blurred, although I certainly had a number that were. This one was taken just as the cockatoo was starting to take off. Such gorgeous birds.
Something Hot: Fire | The Sidewalk | A Pepper
After being in this house for 18 months we thought we'd give lighting the fireplace a go. Of course we thought about this on Saturday, the day we had rain and had no luck trying to convince damp logs to light. We tried again the next night but the logs were still too damp. Seeing that today's prompt was Something Hot I thought I would make another attempt at lighting the fire. Success! I didn't put too many logs on so the fire only burned for about an hour and a half. It is cold tonight and it was lovely to sit and watch the flames and feel the warmth from the fire. I did find it difficult to get a good sharp focus on the flames as they moved so quickly so I think I might be doing a bit of searching on the internet to get some ideas of the camera settings that work best. I think the photo gives the feeling of heat and warmth and a sense of movement. And now I'm finally up-to-date with the blog, that is until next time :-) Night from me. A Framework: Support | A Plan | Surrounded I noticed these fungi when I was looking around my front garden this morning. I could see little red tops amongst the mulch when I came back from my morning walk with the dogs and came back later to investigate further ... with my camera of course. If one thinks laterally the shape of the fungi and the way it unfolds lends itself to the prompt. I was quite taken with these and had to do some googling to find out what they were. The keywords used where 'red, smelly, fungus'! It didn't take much to work out they belong to the 'stinkhorn' family. They are also part of the 'phallic' family. Their botanical name is Aseroe Rubra and they are commonly called Anemone Stinkhorn or Starfish Fungus. (clicking on the blue writing will take you to a site for more information) The first photo here shows the fungus before it has opened its 'arms'. The following photo is the fungus fully open. I've tried to show the different stages of development in the photo below. It's always so interesting to come across new and different things, and the ability to find out about something by utilising google makes it just that much quicker. Of course it's important to check the accuracy of the information on google, but generally for things like finding out the name of a fungus, it's pretty good.
Yay, I have caught up on three days of blog entries. Tomorrow I start back at uni. It will be interesting to see what challenges and painting projects this semester brings. Dinner is calling so it's off to make something to eat. Goodnight all. Urban Art: Graffiti | Signs | Art
I was really hoping to find a good piece of graffiti, as some of the work can be really quite artistic. However, I didn't have any luck. Not that I went driving around as I had a footy game to photograph, a morning tea with my daughter planned and then had people coming over for dinner. I did ask my daughter-in-law who has lived in Beenleigh for quite a number of years if she knew of any good graffiti around the place but she didn't know of any, so that was the end of that idea. Outside the Beenleigh courthouse there is some street art. There are a number of big concrete block chairs and cubes that have a mixture of mosaics, words and other images on them. The mosaic below is a large circular piece that the chairs surround. It is quite interesting with the variety of art work it contains. I'm not sure of its history, but I wonder whether some of the young people in Beenleigh have been involved in its creation. |
ARCHIVE CY365 -2014
This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
