I decided to go with pencils for this prompt as I knew I had plenty of different shades of blue amongst the many sets of colouring pencils. I grabbed a handful of pencils out of the grandkids' colouring in container and had a lot of fun arranging the pencil and playing with the depth of field. This one had the sharpest focus and I like the DoF in it, so it is my choice for my daily photo.

Two Scoops: Ice Cream | Frozen Yoghurt | Cookie Dough I know, I know. I'm late again. The photos have been taken on the correct day, but I haven't done the uploading. So with yesterday's prompt there was no chance of ice cream or frozen yoghurt seeing that it is winter and a wet one at that. Besides we headed up to Binna Burra to do a walk/trek through the rainforest. It's been quite awhile since we've been up and it was so nice to get back amongst the trees and have a good walk. It was about a 17km round trip with a fairly gradual climb uphill. The low cloud cover made it impossible to see anything from the viewpoints but it was lovely nonetheless. So with a big day of driving and walking there was no time to do up a batch of 'cookie' dough either. Enter Zimi - again. He loves chasing the ball, but doesn't like to let it go. So usually I have to throw a second ball once he drops the first one. (And no, when he drops the first one he still won't let me take it). I have a third ball for Bella. This game usually runs smoothly until Bella decides, for some reason known only by her, not to chase her ball whereupon Zimi rushes over and grabs hers as well. Once he has two balls that's pretty much the end of chasing as he cannot bring himself to let me have either of them. He will then run around with the two balls in his mouth and chase Bella chasing the ball. Oh my crazy boy. This photo will do as my prompt for today! The prompt for today, which is day 200 - wow - is Shades Of Blue. I have taken a series of photos, but as yet haven't chosen which one I am going to upload. That will wait until tomorrow morning. Hopefully I will be back on track soon.
Meanwhile I think that it's an easy dinner night, which loosely translates to help yourself and we're heading off to TV land. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday ahead of you. Night for now. A Source Of Happiness: Words | Mementos | Smiles
Well for some reason I had in my mind that today's prompt was Something that makes me smile and that's what I was thinking about for my photo. I knew I was going to take the dogs for a drive when I went to get some more chicken mash, and I know how beside themselves they get when they know they're going to get in the car. Their carry on always puts a smile on my face - in between trying to get Zimi to behave long enough for Bella to actually jump in the car first! So I had my iPhone out and ready to take some photos once I got them in and settled. I'm not sure how, but they even sat still long enough for me to get a photo that wasn't blurred. It wasn't until tonight when I went to upload the photo that I realised the prompt was really A Source Of Happiness. Ah well, they still fulfil that prompt as they provide me with endless enjoyment and company, so they really are a source of happiness. I know this isn't a particularly creative take on the prompt, but it is a real life moment. Aren't they just gorgeous and Bella really does look like she's smiling. Something That Starts With S: Strawberries | Sunflower | Sandcastles As I went through the day I had a few ideas of things to photograph that started with 'S'. Of course, after I've done the photos and uploaded them, I'm thinking of other things. I took a few photos of the sandpit, the swings, the afternoon sunshine etc. In the end it came down to these two. Steve liked this one in the sandpit and I like the one of the swing. As I was still undecided I put both of them up onto the CY365 gallery. This morning I finally got into the veggie garden and did some much needed weeding. While there I pulled up the small crop of baby carrots that I had planted and decided to cut off some stalks from my rhubarb plant. I've been waiting for the rhubarb stalks to turn the colour that I see in the supermarket, but it appears that they don't all do that.
Ok, now what to do with all of these carrots and rhubarb? I was wondering whether the tops of the carrots could be used (I had a heap of them) and so turned to google to try and find a recipe. In the end I went with this recipe for a velvety carrot soup with carrot top pesto and added some chilli flakes. It was quite nice, but I think I would add a little more chilli next time. The bonus is that we have enough for tomorrow night! Trying to find a recipe for the rhubarb was a little more challenging as it had to have ingredients that were actually in my pantry. Finally I found a rhubarb and coconut cake recipe and I had all the ingredients ... or so I thought. I had started putting it all together when I discovered I didn't have quite enough coconut, actually I had less than half what I needed. So I made up the difference with almond flakes. I also didn't have Demerara sugar and went with raw sugar. It turned out really well! I'm not sure that it's going to last very long here though. Well that it's for tonight. Think I'll turn in and read. Have a wonderful day! Dry: Arid | Thirsty | Plain
The chances of finding anything around here that's arid are pretty small, given the amount of rain we've had this year. I was driving home yesterday and thought that photos of this paddock, which isn't far from where I live, could be changed in Lightroom to make it look dry or arid. The photos were taken with my iPhone as I didn't have my DSLR with me. I've uploaded two photos; both different views of the same paddock and with different post-editing treatments. I think they both have a sense of dryness even though in reality they are very fertile with cattle grazing on it. Which is your pick? I Spy: Looking | Observing | Viewing
My most favourite of all photos are candid shots that are unposed, spontaneous and natural. I love to try and capture the essence of the person in my photography and look forward to any opportunity to have my camera out and be clicking happily away. It's always so much fun to upload the photos onto the computer and see what I've captured. I'm sure the grandkids wouldn't recognise me without a camera around my neck, or more than likely pointing at them. The upside is that they are completely at ease with me taking photos of them and just go about doing what they're doing. This shot is from the ones I took yesterday at our family get-together. I think Hunter was looking at his Saba (grandfather) coming towards him as he waited for him to go upstairs together. I love the intensity of his gaze, and the sense of anticipation in this shot; and I love those curls and gorgeous lips! Well I think it's time for my curl up. Night all! Old And New: Contradiction | Opposite | Comparison
I actually took this photo today (Monday) even though the prompt was for yesterday. We had an almost complete family gathering at my daughter's place. We were meant to go to the park for the little ones, but the weather turned against us. I think the kids still managed to get out and play and have a pretty good afternoon. It's been awhile since we've been together so it was lovely to have the opportunity to catch up over some nibbles, wine, and a late lunch. As you could imagine I took heaps of photos yesterday and I'm going to use one of those for today's prompt. But getting back to yesterday. The prompt was old and new. I thought of the cameras, I thought of my hubby holding hands with our grandson (and took photos for it) I thought about records versus DVDs, or iPods/iPhones. In the end I've gone with the computers. Even though the computer in the front of this photo isn't really all that old in years, it is now old technology. It's amazing how rapidly technology is changing - pretty much before our eyes. The old computer, even though it stills works is no longer able to run the latest operating systems and therefore many of the internet sites will not run. The new Mac is faster, bigger, clearer and overall more powerful, but I wonder how long before it is made redundant. On the screen are shots from yesterday's gathering. What a wonderful day! We headed out early this morning to go to our grandson's third birthday and then at lunch time we headed back into the city to Juanita's place. From there we caught the train to Suncorp Stadium where we participated in the challenge to become the World's Biggest Orchestra. And we did it! With 7223 musicians participating, we are now officially the World's Biggest Orchestra. Wow - what a buzz and what a magical sound that many instruments make. After the event Steve, Juanita and I headed off for a well earned drink and celebrated with a bottle of bubbly at the Caxton Pub, along with a few other participants who happened to be there. You could spot the participants easily - we all had on bright blue T-Shirts with World's Biggest Orchestra challenge blazoned across the front. With a day like this there wasn't time to actually follow the prompt but I thought that a photo from today would be much more meaningful to me. This photo was taken as everyone was leaving the stadium at around 4:00pm. I had my iPhone up taking random shots and in particular I liked the long shadows that were being cast by the afternoon sun. I am the long shadow with my iPhone out to the side and my saxophone case in my left hand. And appropriately for the prompt I've managed to crop the heads off just about everyone in front of me. And seeing that it's been a big day I think this is it for tonight - I'm off to read. Night all and hope that you all have a wonderful Sunday whatever you may be doing. Stacks: A Pile | Orderly | The Library We have our own little library at home, albeit out in the garage. We made the move to ebooks a couple of years ago and have given away a lot of 'real' books over the years. However there are some books I just can't part with yet, hence they are all stacked in two bookshelves. I have been known to reread books over again as does my son, who has started to take a few books away with him when he comes to visit. While the ebooks are easy to read and pretty much all that I do read these day, they really don't have the same feel as a book. I took a few different shots and went with my hubby's choice tonight. Tomorrow should be a fun day. In the morning we're off to visit our grandson, Ethan, who turns three. Gee, don't the years just fly by? Then at lunch time we catch up with my daughter to go and participate in Brisbane Festival's attempt to break the World's Biggest Orchestra which has been held by Canada since May 2000. At that attempt they had 6,452 participants. Steve is playing the clarinet, Juanita is playing the violin and I will be playing saxophone. Even if we don't break the record it is going to be an amazing experience playing in an orchestra of that size!
On The Street: Life | People | Places
Ok, I admit it, this is not a photo of anything to do with On The Street. I did think about uploading a street photo from our recent holiday, but when I went to the photo library to have a look I realised just how many photos of streets there were, and how long it would take me to go through them. In the end I decided to run with the photo I took this morning. I guess this photo could fall under the heading of life. Our gorgeous boy Oliver is a silver, long haired domestic cat. What that really means is that anywhere or anything he sleeps on is guaranteed to be covered in fur before too long. To try and protect all our quilt covers I bought little beds for him to sleep in, and have placed them on beds in the rooms he normally likes to spend time in. And being a cat, the room changes on whim, his, that is. This morning I walked into the spare bedroom to find him curled up with all the stuffed toys and very studiously ignoring his own bed. I just couldn't resist taking a few photos of him. You can even see little puffs of silver fur on the leg of the clown. And no he didn't move after I took his photos. |
ARCHIVE CY365 -2014
This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
