The photo that featured in the email for connected was about the use of technology to keep families connected over the distances that separate them. While I had a few photos of that from Christmas day I wanted to get a photo today seeing that I have nearly ended my year of daily photos. We went to Ikea today to get some new chairs and came home with a children's kitchen set as well. Steve has been wanting to buy one for the grandchildren for the past two years, and finally couldn't help himself. This is my take on connected - Steve had great fun putting it all together. It really is quite neat, and has batteries so that when you press a button the element on the stove glows red. How good is that?

This is just one of the photos I took on Christmas day with the kids gathered around the iPad to talk to their Abuela and bisabuela (Spanish for grandmother and great grandmother). Mum lives in Innisfail and we're in Brisbane, so it's nice to be able to make a connection with her through the internet. It's great that technology has advanced to such a degree that this ability to be connected is now possible.

Well Used: Loved | Worn | Passed Down
This was one of the prompts where all the things I thought of for loved, worn or passed down had already been photographed at some point during the year for a daily prompt. My husband did suggest taking a photo of Bella but she's featured in a lot of shots as it is, without adding to her tally. I don't have a lot of my children's things as I have been gradually handing them back for them to store, or to do what they want with them. However, I do have a small box of stuffed toys, some of which have found their way to the bedroom where the grandchildren play. There they sit on the bed and occasionally get pulled out and played with. This clown was my daughter's (she is now 32) and it did get a lot of use in its day. Reckless: Carefree | Brash | Breakneck
Technically I didn't take this photo on the day. It's actually one from Christmas day but I liked it so I thought I'd share it. Little Justin (our grandson) had been running madly all day burning off energy that only 6 year olds seem to possess! This was much later in the afternoon and he curled up quietly on Bella, who obviously didn't mind a bit. This is something that would not be possible with Zimi, the crazy 4 year old, although he seems to be slowly maturing. His behaviour with all the activity that was about was pretty good. Signs that he is growing up! Glow: Glimmer | Radiance | Light
Last night we took Hunter for a walk down Kaiser Drive. Pretty much every house on the street has some type of Christmas lights and displays up, with several of them entered in the Christmas light competition. Even though Hunter had been with his family the night before he still had a beautiful sense of wonderment as he tried to take all the sights in. And wandering for over an hour didn't bother him as there was just so much to see. I wanted to capture the glow on Hunter's face, both from the surrounding lights as well as the glow from within, that magical expression on his face. It was really difficult to do, as he was so engaged with what was going on around him that I didn't want to keep interrupting him to take a photo, not to mention the hundred or so people wandering down the street and the children all wanting to be in on the action. Hunter and Saba (grandfather) are sitting in a sleigh that someone has erected and encourages the children to sit in and get their photos taken. It was such a great feeling of community spirit. It was extra special to be able to share Hunter's wonder and enjoyment. My Everyday: Typical | Routine | Every Day
Well, you know, I think I've taken quite a lot of photos of the things I do everyday, so I was a bit stumped to think of something that I do everyday that would be vaguely interesting - I mean seriously, I did not want to take a photo of cleaning or ironing etc. So I decided not to actually run with the prompt and put up a photo of a real life event. You may remember one of the previous prompts was bubble, and I opened my bubble making kit that I had bought for the grandkids as something to do in case they got bored. Seeing that it was open, the next time Hunter came over I pulled it out. He had a ball, as kids tend to do with bubbles. When he turned up today (Thursday) the first thing he asked for was 'bubbles'. Of course you can guarantee that my camera wasn't too far away! Love the concentration, his cheeks full of air and those gorgeous lips. Bright Background: Backdrop | Setting | Environment
We had our other grandson over so another opportunity to get the camera out and use Ethan as my subject for the day's prompt. This cubby house really has been a hit with the grandkids, and the red wheel has certainly been used by all the children. It's so bright and really pops out in a photo. I like the way it draws the eye to Ethen's happy face and the catchlights in his eyes are just gorgeous! A fun afternoon was had by all! Fashion Statement: Dressed | Stylish | Unusual Just to backtrack to yesterday's prompt and the little tricycle. I did go and look through my photo albums and sure enough there was a photo of Juanita and her dad on it down at the family home in a little spot called Flying Fish Point, near Innisfail. That was Christmas 1983. So Juanita was 2 years old when her Abuelo (grandfather) gave it to her. And now to today's prompt. I had my grandson and his mum visit today. The CY365 email talked about placement and composition of a person in the frame, of engaging the person to be photographed and so on. I figured I would take some photos of Hunter and use one of them for the prompt. Of all the photos I took the one that stood out as being kind of appropriate for the prompt was this one. Hunter turned to us and said "I'm a pirate". Here are a few more shots of today's visit. I am so glad we found a house that came with a cubby house. It's been so much fun for the kids. And the dogs don't mind playing in the sand, or sleeping in it, or bringing it into the house. Ah, it's all good fun :-)
Pink: In Nature | Around The House | A Wardrobe Item
I spent the morning taking photos of my grandson's final footy game (rugby league) for the season. It was a carnival where these cute little 5 and 6 year olds play 10 minute games on shortened fields and rotate through various clubs. Just too adorable. While I was there though I kept my eye out for pink for today's prompt. It's amazing just how much pink I saw. Well, I guess there were quite a lot of sisters there, so it shouldn't have been too surprising. These were some of my choices and I'm not sure I put the best one up on the CY365 gallery. Ah well. We woke to a stunningly beautiful day today - still cold mind you - but the sun was out and the wind had dropped. After a lovely walk and breakfast we headed off to Gordon, about 1.5 - 2 hours away, to visit Steve's niece, her husband and their children. I took a heap of photos (no surprise there) and as usual tried to capture those unposed, spontaneous moments of the family. I haven't had time to really go through all the photos that I took, but I quickly looked through them to find one I liked for the prompt. This one caught my eye. I liked the way Esther is holding and looking at her brother, Caspar. I think there is gentleness and love in this shot. Tomorrow we are off to visit Steve's other niece and husband and their little boy. More photos for me to take. A Boy: A Young Man | A Lad | A Son
I think I have all of these covered in this photo. This was taken today when I went to Beenleigh to watch and take photos of Bailey's football game. Justin and Hunter were having a lovely time playing and I managed to get a few photos while the footy players were having their break between quarters. They grow up way too quickly. |

This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
