The End: Final | Extreme | Finish
The email prompt talked about the so-called Golden Hour, the end of the day that offers beautiful, warm light. I've done quite a few photos that have used this light and it really does add to the photo. Unfortunately this afternoon's light wasn't quite as nice as it was a bit hazy, and I was a little late getting to it. Never mind, I still find this time of day just beautiful and enjoy the changes in the sky as the sun sets. I don't think I'll ever tire of looking at nature - I find it so peaceful and soothing to my soul

Day 270: In Disguise: Goofy | With Glasses | With Props
Ok, I missed the photo for Day 270. We went out with my daughter and son-in-law for dinner and I had intended to take a photo of the two of them being goofy, but completely forgot - until I got home and by then it was too late. Ah well, one of the few days I have missed. So onto Day 271 ... Puppy Dog Eyes: Sweet | Big | Somewhat Sad No puppy dogs in our house so I had to settle for older dogs. Zimi was too busy guarding his ball and wouldn't let me get close, so I got Bella to pose. Hard to resist that look in her eyes and it was back to playing ball after I took a few shots. Bubbles: In The Air | Blowing | Multiple
Another windy day here in Yatala, so I thought it best to wait until I picked Steve up from the train station in order to enlist his help with this prompt. It would have been quite a challenge for me to blow bubbles, then get the camera up and ready for action, especially given the wind. Of course, I could have taken photos of different types of bubbles, but the blowing bubbles type was what came to mind first. I bought this bubble making set for the grandchildren quite awhile ago, but until this prompt it remained unopened. By the time we got home, threw the ball for the dogs, watered the trees and shrubs and fed the chickens, it was starting to get pretty close to wine o'clock time, but we did get in my photo of the day and I think secretly Steve had fun blowing bubbles. Along with many, many blurred photos I also managed to get a few that were close enough to being in focus to use. I did have fun playing around with post processing in Lightroom! The third photo along is the result of a slow shutter speed, combined with the onOne preset, glow-vibrance. I think it gives quite an abstract feel. At this point, I'm still unsure which of these six to upload to the CY365 gallery. I think I will wait until Steve gets home and see which one he likes. Goodbye Summer: Farewells | Endings | Partings
Another prompt that doesn't apply to the Southern Hemisphere. It's more like Hello Summer with some of the temperatures we've been experiencing the past few days. In these shots I was trying to give the feel of moving outside now that the weather is warmer without making it obvious. So the top shot show flowers in bloom with the blurred outdoor living area in the background. The second has the pool in the background. I had thought of taking a photo of the pool from some sort of creative perspective, but with the winds we've been having there are a few leaves and flowers on the surface. We are definitely looking forward to using the pool again. Notes: On A Page | Written | Memory Aid
My first thought for this prompt was sheet music, however I have taken photos of music before so thought I would go for something different. Over the past week I have been sorting through boxes of memorabilia collected over some 35 years (it has been culled occasionally). I have been having a wonderful time looking back over my past and reflecting on the wonderful people I have known, friends and family, both. I must say it's been a great life and if I had to do it all again to get to where I am now, I would (well maybe a couple of little tweaks here and there - I think we all have those!). Looking through all of these bits and pieces reawakens such wonderful memories of people and places, and I am so very thankful and privileged for the opportunities and experiences I have had so far. There are sorrows in some of the memories, that is to be expected; life is not always smooth, however, this is more than countered by the many, many joys that make up the fabric of my life. There were a couple of things I thought of for this prompt, things that came out of my sorting. I found some wonderful letters and stories written by my daughter when she was 6-7 years old. There was also a notebook that we used to keep by the phone for my children to take down messages if I was out. That notebook has a lot more than just phone messages in it, including a note from my daughter to my son saying that he was really a martian and had been adopted. There are some very 'artistically' decorated pages in it as well. I took photos of all of these. However, it was this old diary that I decided to go with. My dad died in 1989 and for some reason I have this dairy (which wasn't used as a diary). In it, dad kept notes of things to do with our cars - services etc - but also his notes on his home brewing. That's what this page is open to - the brews he set up in 1987. It's a nice feeling to have a tangible link to him through his handwriting. The photo isn't particularly creative, apart, perhaps, from the processing, but it represents part of my daily life as it is happening, and a part of my life. Get Wet: Movement | Splash | Action
Ahh I was running late in getting to this prompt and didn't have a lot of time before I had to leave to go to my ballet classes. So it was a matter of taking a variety of shots and hoping like crazy that one of them would be ok when I got to them the next day. I took shots of water splashing into the sink (didn't look very good or interesting), the shower splashing onto the floor (also not good or interesting) and a few other things, but nothing was giving me a good splash. This is one of those prompts that can be difficult to set up by oneself as I didn't have someone to help drop something so that I could have time to focus properly and photograph the splash. In order to get these two shots of a ball dropping into the dogs' water bucket, I had to hold the camera steady in one hand and hope like crazy the focus was spot-on while I dropped the ball. Many shots later, I didn't mind these two - well I didn't know that until the next day. I played around a little with the colour to try and make it more interesting, and also to highlight the action. I am quite pleased that these two actually managed to catch the ball as it impacts the water and that they're relatively in focus. I think I managed to capture movement, splash and action, and thankfully I didn't get too wet in the process. Of course, Zimi was a little confused as to why I was continually dropping his ball into the water bucket. They did get a quick play with the ball before I headed off. For no particular reason other than I was having fun taking photos of feathers against the afternoon sun. It was quite low in the sky and giving a beautiful golden glow to the feathers. I just couldn't resist.
Breathe: Inhale | Exhale | To Live
Well this was a prompt that I knew exactly what I wanted to photograph - the nose of a dog. The only trouble is, now that I've taken a few and uploaded them, I don't know which one I like best! These were my favourites. Thoughts? I will upload to the CY365 gallery in the morning and maybe the one I like best will jump out at me? One can only hope! Just a quick blog tonight - I want to try and get my feather photos up! Changes: Colours | Seasons | Shift Sometimes one of the difficult things about doing this 365 challenge is that the prompts occasionally reflect the Northern Hemisphere. For example, the photo to demonstrate this prompt was of leaves changing colour in autumn. Meanwhile we are well into spring here, but with spring come many changes as the seasons shift. The mango tree is now in full bloom with flowering ends covering most of the tree. The little green buds you can see in this photo are the beginnings of our mangoes. I'm hoping, going by the amount of flowers we have, that we will have another great season of mangoes. They tend to ripen just after Christmas and the challenge is to keep the birds away from the fruit - I think they enjoy the mangoes just as much as we do. Once the fruit are big enough we will get the wildlife safe netting up to protect them. Unfortunately we didn't make the world record for a fitness class - actually we weren't even close - but we did have fun and judging by how sore my muscles feel today, it was a good workout as well!
Brown: Earthy | Natural | Warmth
Brown - lots of choices around the place for things that are brown. But it was the photos of the feather that I took yesterday that I thought would be interesting to do for this prompt. So, here I was wandering around the chicken run looking for a soft brown feather, while the little ladies were hoping I was bringing them in some nice treats and were wandering around my feet. In particular, I wanted to capture the feather with the afternoon sun behind it. I took these shots by setting the focal distance first and then holding the feather in my left hand, with the sun down quite low, and moved the feather backwards and forwards until I got it fairly clearly focussed. I tried a variety of angles of the feather and also varied where the sun was in relation to the feather. This photo has not been enhanced or modified in any way - it is as it came out of the camera. I just love the golden glow through the feather with the very subtle bokeh in the background. Tomorrow I will put up some of the other feather shots I took yesterday, as well as today. Hoping everyone has a wonderful Sunday planned. My daughter and I are going to be part of an attempt to break the record for the Fitness World Record Attempt: Circuit Class. We need to have more than 2061 participants set by Melbourne in July this year. Should be a fun half hour! |
ARCHIVE CY365 -2014
This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
