We just spent a wonderful weekend away in Townsville attending my family reunion. It is kind of strange to call it a reunion, as there were family members there that I haven't met before; perhaps it could have been called a gathering of Ypinazars. The afternoon started at 12:00 and continued for quite a lot of us until around 8:00pm. What a wonderful day it was! It was quite emotional to reconnect with family that I haven't seen for many, many years, but oh so special, and an event I shall treasure. I think we had 5 generations represented.
As could be imagined, a large number of photos were taken, and I have just commenced the process of sorting through the photos deleting multiple copies, blurred photos, photos taken at the wrong time and all those not so great photos that show up once they are on a larger screen. From there I will start editing and then burning DVDs to post out to those who wanted a copy of the day's action.
And now to the daily photos for the past three days ...
Day 285
Tradition: Custom | Ritual | Observance
Sunday morning saw us having breakfast with our friends before meeting up with my siblings and a cousin for morning tea. As we finished we noticed a large contingent of Harley Davidson motorbikes going past. It took us a little while to work out that they were riding to support CanTeen, a charity which provides a range of services for people aged from 12-24 years living with cancer. From my google searching I think this motorbike group started this charity ride three years ago. CanTeen has been going since 1985 and they have a tradition of a national bandanna day to fundraise. It's not so obvious in the shot below, but many of the riders had a bandanna somewhere, either on their bike or they wearing one.
Day 284
Close: Fill The Frame | Details | Near
Today was supposed to be a self portrait, up close and filling the frame. This was not going to happen today. While there were plenty of photos being taken, there just wasn't the opportunity to set up a self-portrait. Actually, I didn't really think too much about the prompt today - I was too involved in family fun.
I wasn't sure if anyone would bring a tripod, so I brought mine along (well, hubby did) as well as my wide angle lens. A chance to get a group photo was just too good an opportunity to miss. So, no self portrait but I think the Ypinazar clan filled the frame and I am there in the photo next to the young girl.
Pulling:
We stayed with a long time school friend of mine and her family, while we were in Townsville. I think we've been friends since 1970 - gee, doesn't that go back a long way! It's always so good to be able to just fall back into the friendship and conversation, despite the passing years. We arrived towards the end of the day and by the time we caught up on the most recent happenings it was time to take their dogs for a walk.
They have two beagles who live up to their reputation of following a scent. This often meant that my friends would want to be going in one direction, but their dog was intent on following his new found smell. It was getting close to sunset when I remembered that I needed to take a photo for the day and all I had on me was my iPhone. Perhaps not the best shot of Biggles pulling (or is it Ann?), but you get the idea.
