I really wasn't terribly inspired by today's prompt of 'essential equipment' and couldn't think of something to photograph. By 6:00pm I really needed to get a photo for today. I started back at uni yesterday and it is a requirement that all our paintings this year are done in oil paints. When I got home I went through my really old oil paints to check what colours I already had, and what I needed to purchase. I guess that oil paints are going to be 'essential equipment' for me this year, so I decided to photograph them.
I took a few photos trying different ideas: mixing the paints and the paintbrushes and trying to capture a few things that I will need for painting this year. Taking photos from different angles and using different apertures. I uploaded the photos and they were all too busy, and nothing jumped out at me. Back out again, more shots. This time I reduced how much I was trying to put into the photo. Back to the computer to upload. Simplifying the shot worked much better and I ended up with a few shots that I liked. In this photo, I've used the onOne Vintage preset Classic Muted in Lightroom and added a square vignette to bring the viewer's attention inwards. The paints are resting on a blank canvas - another requirement for painting but one which adds interesting texture underneath the paint tube :-)
Night all.
