Today was my big day!
I have been wanting to attempt the 10k Bridge to Brisbane run for quite a number of years - even before we moved down here. I have never been much a runner, although I've done short runs around Cairns and on the treadmill over the past few years. I never seemed to get around to doing the necessary training to make the move to a longer distance. This year I decided to give it a go and so set about doing some training to ensure that I could actually run for 10k. And today was the day.
An early 4:00am start, but what a buzz it was to be part of the Bridge to Brisbane run. Some 40000 people took part in the 5k and 10k run/walk and it was an amazing sight to see so many people out and about, running and walking. And such a wonderful feeling to actually achieve what I set out to do, and in a time of 1:11:25 which is my fastest 10k ever. Well, it was only my fourth 10k run, but it's good to see that each one has been faster than the previous. Now my goal is to do a 10k in under an hour.
This is the back of my T-shirt - all competitors who finish the race receive one of these. I thought it most appropriate for today's prompt.
