When I take the shortcut between Yatala and Beenleigh - down a dirt road, which I just love doing in the 4-wheel drive - my eye has often been drawn to a particular spot. It's just a little pond, with lots of water flowers and usually water birds feasting on it. Oftentimes there are cattle near the water, or not too far away. It looks so peaceful and idyllic - a rural scene in a not particularly rural part of town. I drove there to get some photos only to discover that the little pond had dried up as we haven't had a lot of rain lately.
I guess one of my favourite spots is actually around our yard. We both love trees and the country feel of our property, which is just over an acre. If it were feasible, I think we'd both be happy living on a large 50 acre block with lots of trees and a feeling of being away from it all. But not to be, as Steve needs to have ready access to an airport for his fly-in fly-out work. This is the scene that greets me most afternoons. Late in the afternoon I throw the ball for the dogs, check the veggies and herbs and get the chickens organised for the night. Unfortunately not all this land is ours - this looks down past our boundary onto the pony trail. I find it just so beautiful and peaceful in the warmth of the afternoon sun. I find such joy in nature; it is good for my soul.
