Well I had no luck with taking a still from this video and importing it into Lightroom in order to crop it. If you want to watch 28 seconds of Zimi and Ruby running up and down the fence line here's your chance. I'm sure they'd have a great time together if we organised a play time at the local dog park. There is also a black poodle running beside Ruby. She did eventually just walk through the fence over to our side. Bella had a bit of a sniff and a look at all the action and decided that sort of carry on was just way too undignified for her so sat in the shade and watched.

Such great looking feathers on these birds.

The prompt for today is On The Other Side. This morning I took a video of Zimi playing with another German Shepherd on the other side of the fence. They were having a wonderful time just running up and down along the fence line. If I can work out how to turn a section into a still photo and export it to Lightroom, then I will upload it. However, that will be a job for tomorrow morning.
In An Alley: Urban | Hidden | Neglected Where possible I like to keep my photos for the daily prompt relevant to something in my life, whether it be a moment or an object, but I feel it needs to have some meaning to me. Sometimes the daily prompt fits nicely; at other times it can be a struggle. And then there are times when I choose to take photos of something that is part of my 'real life' for that day. Today I dropped my husband off at the airport and went in search of my great grandmother's grave site. I have explored my family history on and off for many years and at the moment I'm having another look. Thanks to the internet and the digitisation of so many records it was possible to locate exactly where her grave site was. I was really disappointed and saddened to see that there was no marker, no acknowledgement of the life of this person who is buried here. I did not know her and know so very little of her life. She was born in Cork, Ireland around 1872 and died in 1959. There are so many answers I would like. Norah Collins was married twice and her first husband, William Collins is my great grandfather. It appears she had two further children with her second husband. This is the headstone of the son and his wife from her second marriage. This is a general shot of the cemetery in Nudgee, and is the one I used for today's prompt.
Measured: Gauge | Survey | Size
I must admit this CY365 challenge has been really good to get me thinking and finding things that I had forgotten I had hidden away in cupboards for the past few years! I had taken shots of some typical types of measuring things that I could spot in Steve's workshop but wasn't particularly motivated by any of them and was looking around for something to else that would fit the prompt. I remembered that I had this old set of scales tucked away. I'm not sure whether my dad used it for weighing coins when he was a publican, but I think it's a good age. I got it out and dusted off some cobwebs, but not all, as I think they emphasise its age. I would love to see if I could chase down the two missing weights. I didn't have a lot of luck getting sharp, clear shots for some reason; perhaps the aperture was just a bit too wide. This was one of the few I was kind of happy with as I like the tonings, the subtlety of the background and the touch of bokeh. Well, that's the end of the weekend. I do hope you all have a great week in front of you. Take care and night for now. Pink: In Nature | Around The House | A Wardrobe Item
I spent the morning taking photos of my grandson's final footy game (rugby league) for the season. It was a carnival where these cute little 5 and 6 year olds play 10 minute games on shortened fields and rotate through various clubs. Just too adorable. While I was there though I kept my eye out for pink for today's prompt. It's amazing just how much pink I saw. Well, I guess there were quite a lot of sisters there, so it shouldn't have been too surprising. These were some of my choices and I'm not sure I put the best one up on the CY365 gallery. Ah well. Eye Catching: Colour | Contrast | Bright
These wine glasses were the first thing I thought of for today's prompt. We bought them in Santiago last year and I just love how colourful and bright they are. I took a few photos of the glasses by themselves and from different angles, but I think having the wine bottle in the background just finishes the shot off. Anyway that's it for me tonight. A glass of wine with dinner and a relaxing evening was a great way to start the weekend. I do hope everyone has a wonderful weekend planned whether it be a busy one, or a quiet and relaxing one! Night all. Floating: Buoyant | Suspended | Drifting My idea for today's prompt was to try and capture a feather floating down, however I had to wait for my husband to come home to help me out. Unfortunately for me today was really quite windy so it was pretty much impossible to focus on a feather that was being blown all over the place. Also we didn't have much time to play around with the feather as it was getting dark quickly as well. None of the photos of the feather floating turned out sharp enough, but I did like a few of Steve holding the feather prior to letting it go. I've added a little bit of a golden glow to enhance the colours a bit. It rained overnight and as I came home from my morning walk (which was ever so delicious in the fog) I noticed this tiny spider web caught in between the gate 'verticals' (what do you call the poles?) and shining from the rain drops that had fallen on it. I fed the birds and the dogs and then came back to take some macro shots of it. Well, that then led to me taking photos of raindrops on a whole heap of things. There are some really tiny spiders out there. These are some of my favourites from this morning.
Bonus: Extra | More | Unexpected
The melaleuca shrubs are blossoming madly at the moment - spring must be around the corner. Our next door neighbour's shrubs are along the boundary so we get to enjoy the massive blooms of colour that are out at the moment. And I did take photos of them, but they just didn't really look how I wanted them to. So I took some photos of our apple tree which is also blooming madly. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of luck with the apples, but the flowers are nice! We've been away for a few days and it seems like the tree came to life over that time. What I didn't realise was that these delicate flowers have a gorgeous perfume. Perhaps I should cut a small branch of flowers for the house. These are the two shots I liked but I'm not yet sure which one I will upload to the CY365 gallery. That's a decision I shall leave until tomorrow morning. Night all. Remember: Record | Memory | Recall
Often, when someone is killed in an accident, a small memorial is created near the site. I have driven past this power pole many times on my way to Beenleigh over the past two years. It always has flowers on it and a photo. I stopped to look today as I thought of using this for the prompt of remember. I do not know the woman who was killed on this spot, but her memory is being kept alive for the members of her family and friends. It is difficult to read the date of death but it looks like 2006 or 2008. She would have been 33-36 years old. I hope that her loved ones have found some peace since this time. The top photo is the one I put up on the CY365 gallery, the photo below shows the rest of the memorial. For me, the photo serves as a reminder to cherish those I love, to live my life to the fullest, to be happy and to see the good around me even when it might be difficult; to strive towards my goals, aspirations and dreams, to love, as I do not know how long this precious gift of life will last. Play: Recreation | A Game | Fun
It might not be play, but going out to dinner with friends certainly is fun. We've been in and around Melbourne for the past few days. Tonight was our last night there and we went out to a lovely vegetarian restaurant which has been operating since 1974. The food was beautiful. We caught up with a friend of Steve's from way back in his uni days. A good night was had by all. I didn't take my big DSLR in with me so had to rely on the iPhone for this shot. It was hard getting photos as the food was being shared onto plates while I was snapping away. I still seem to get quite a bit of noise from the iPhone when I take photos at night and use the noise reduction tool in Lightroom to try and reduce the effect. This hasn't come up too badly. |

This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
