When I uploaded the photos I just couldn't go past the macro shots. There are some beautiful flowers on what we consider weeds. So my take on the prompt is the hidden beauty of these tiny flowers. I just love the delicate lines and burst of colour. Below are some of the other macro shots.
The prompt for today is 'hiding' and some of the inspiration suggested hiding in the bushes, in the fridge, office. None of those ideas particularly took my fancy today, but I went out with my macro lens hoping to find some little insect hiding in amongst the flowers or bushes. I didn't have much luck with that so I started taking photos of the flowers of the weeds that are around our place at the moment - courtesy of all the rain we've had. Then I did a few of the toys hiding in the sand which are in the ones that didn't make it. When I uploaded the photos I just couldn't go past the macro shots. There are some beautiful flowers on what we consider weeds. So my take on the prompt is the hidden beauty of these tiny flowers. I just love the delicate lines and burst of colour. Below are some of the other macro shots.

Would you believe, it's raining again! It was quite nice this morning and I kind of thought it might be ok this afternoon. It's not much fun taking photos in the rain and I didn't want to risk getting the camera wet.
I had thought about buying some vegetable seedlings for the veggie patch ready to photograph for today's prompt of 'plant something', but the day didn't quite pan out that way. So I decided to take a photo of the area that needs new plants instead. Well, not exactly the area as that is bare and would have been quite a boring shot. This is my take on photographing the area that I need to plant out. Not a particularly interesting or creative shot, I know, but I was all out of ideas today. Some days, and some prompts, lend themselves to creativity and enthusiasm more than others. This was one of those others :-) And another short blog tonight. Enjoy what's left of your day! Well it's been a long day with uni and then coming home and doing some piano practice. And then a zillion or so photos of the dogs playing with the ball for today's prompt. That meant deleting almost a zillion photos. Thankfully Steve was home this time round, as usually whenever I'm trying to get shots with the dogs I'm trying to do it by myself, which is a tad difficult! It was good to be able to get down at ground level to take the shots and get a different perspective for them. I'm finding that I'm having trouble deciding which photo I like best out of the ones I take for the daily photo. I'm not sure what I should be looking for when I make the choice. I eventually narrowed today's shots down to two that I liked, but the decision as to the one that I upload ... yeah ... These are the two that I had to choose between. Which one do you think is the better of the two? And why? I'm really interested in how people respond/react to different shots. It's interesting, but hardly surprising, how each person reads a photo differently and likes different elements in a shot. As always, I appreciate any comments that you would like to leave.
With that, it's good night! Cheers all! For all those who have been waiting .... Carmen has started to upload photos onto her page!
Short and sweet tonight. My original plan was to take a shot of my spotty umbrella, which I did - several in fact. But in the end I decided to go for this spotted piece of fabric. I plan to use it to make a carry case for my paintbrushes, so that they're safe and don't get bent out of shape when I travel to uni. And that's it for tonight :-)
Oh, I have updated the painting blog for anyone who might be following my "progress" there! Night all. Happy St Patrick's day everyone! How many of you actually get dressed in green and celebrate the day? It's not an occasion we've ever celebrated, but it's obviously quite big in a lot of places.
I knew when reading through the prompts that we have very little in the way of green clothing or accessories that we could use for the photo for today. So I was at a bit of a loss. Actually a big bit of a loss. About the only thing I had was a necklace with a green glass pendant and I was going to see if I could make that interesting. Seeing that it was a lovely warm, sunny day, Steve, unbeknownst to me invited Justin, Mel and the kids over for a swim. No, none of them was (or is it were?) wearing green. However, Hunter was playing with Mr Happy - who was green!!!! - and Mel suggested using him for my prompt. So Hunter isn't really 'wearing' green, but he's holding green :-) Through the magic of Lightroom I've changed the hue levels and given Hunter a green shirt. It was originally blue. I didn't get as many good shots as I would have liked because I had the wrong lens - I should have changed to the nifty fifty instead of keeping the macro on. There a couple of nice shots in there though. Well this is it for me tonight. Have a great one whatever you're doing and if you're celebrating St Patricks day - have an awesome time :-) Take care ... Are you detecting a theme yet? It possibly might have something to do with St Patrick's day being this month. And tomorrow's prompt is 'Wearing of the Green'. :-) I think I've taken quite a lot of shots around the yard and garden lately, so I was looking for something a little different for this prompt today. I had the idea of picking a bunch of all my different herbs, tying them with string and then arranging them for some 'interesting' shots. Herbs do tend to start to go limp if they're played around with for too long. It was a shame that the sage that I picked for the photos had a couple of eaten leaves - I should have checked a little more carefully before I started. While I didn't mind these, I felt there was something missing and wondered what the photo would look like if I added some cherry tomatoes, just for that extra pop of colour? Sometime after lunch I braved the shopping centre to pick up some groceries especially fruit (Steve is home). Looking at the series of above photos again I thought I'd try something completely different with some of the fruit that I had just bought. So out came the fruit! I had a few tries with arranging the pears in different ways and against different backgrounds. I do like the lift the red gives. Next came the grapes. I placed them on the timber table table and arranged them so that I would have the red chair as the background. Then I grabbed a bottle of wine and a crystal wine glass and set up the grapes, bottle and glass. As the coffee table is quite low, Zimi thought he'd help himself to some of the loose grapes on the table before I managed to shoo him off. Crazy dog! Down to the computer and I was quite happy with a couple of them. Of course the problem was, as Steve so nicely pointed out, that I had 'white' grapes and a bottle of shiraz. Hmmm, probably not. Back to see if we had a bottle of white anywhere. That would be a 'no' and a bottle of rose muscat was the closest I could get. This is the photo that we finally decided on. And with that it's time to make dinner. Goodnight all! 1/500 sec, f / 2.5, ISO 400, focal length 50mm
Well I decided to go with the photo of the butterfly for my photo of the day, except that I cropped it even further, adjusted some colours and added a square vignette. It's a common Australian Crow and found around Brisbane, scientific name is Euploea core 1/160 sec, f / 11, ISO 640, focal length 100mm While I was out taking shots for 'in a field of green' I couldn't resist taking a few shots of the birds while they were around feeding this morning. The first one of the galah was the other of pick for today's photo. I was going to upload some of the flowers I took as well but I will get to that tomorrow.
Friday evening - sounds like the right time to kick back and put our feet up. Yep, Steve is home :-) Night all! I had been taking a few shots this morning for my photo of the day 'In a field of green' and was walking down to the office to upload the photos onto the computer when I saw this butterfly in the garden bed outside the piano room. I took just the one shot before it flew away. Just had to share it :-) Not sure yet whether I'll use it for my photo of the day or not. I've cropped it and used auto tone preset in lightroom.
First up, the good news. Hunter is now home from hospital! :-D I spent a lot of today working on my paintings for uni and I've updated the painting page. When I say working, that actually means a bit of time painting and a whole lot of time thinking about how to go about the painting, choosing colours and mixing them and then seeing what is working and what isn't. And then there's the clean up. My photo of the day sort of fitted in between all of those things today. Branches. Heaps of branches around here. After trying a few shots I ended up taking photos of the pile of dead branches sitting outside the art studio (art studio - doesn't that sound good!). Got some really nice textured ones, but I might redo those for one of my other prompts. I did a variety of shots using the macro lens and also the 50mm. As I'd taken so many and all so different I find it hard to choose. Also I really wasn't thinking a lot about the photography today. I ended up sending off four to Steve and it's funny, but we both liked this one the best out of all of them. I like the texture in the dead branch and how even though the branch may be dead, it's become home for other insects. In one of the other shots of this branch the ant is much clearer. You can just make it out in this photo if you look close enough. I also like the touches of greenery around the old branch. Tomorrow's prompt is 'in a field of green' and for the first time in awhile I actually have an idea of what I want to photograph. That should make my choice a whole lot easier :-)
Time to feed Bella and Zimi and then make myself some dinner - stir fry tonight I think! And then the last episode of series 9 NCIS. Have a wonderful night, morning, evening ... Valmae |

This blog started out to be about my first 365 day photography project - one photo each day - through Katrina Kennedy's Capture Your 365 challenge Blogs I followThe more I start looking at blogs the more I find that are interesting. This is not good. I can never remember where I found them. Not to mention how time consuming they can be ...
