From Down Under: Looking Up | Towards The Sky | Australian? A short post tonight - I'm hungry ... This prompt had me up and down from the ground and taking photos of all sorts of things from underneath: trees, chairs, dogs, flowers, windmills, workbench tools. These were the ones I liked. And with that, it's time to say goodnight from me ... have a good one!

Predictable: Expected | Likely | Anticipated Ah, another prompt where I really had no idea what I was going to photograph. And not a lot came to mind as the day progressed. When all else fails, there's always a dog or two to take photos of. So let's go with how predictable Zimi is when it comes to the time of the afternoon for throwing balls. I can always count on Zimi to be absolutely alert and ready to go. This is Zimi in high alert as I have the balls in one hand ready to throw and the camera in the other. I'm not sure I'll be forgiven for this unflattering photo though, but it was too cute to pass up. ISO 100, 70mm, f/4.0, 1/200 sec While I was out and about in the garden throwing the balls and gathering some cherry tomatoes I noticed a couple of little bugs on a leaf. Naturally I went back in to get the macro lens for the camera so I could get some shots of them. ISO 640, 100mm, f/4.0, 1/125 sec
I couldn't actually work out what I was seeing on the LED screen at the back of the camera and it wasn't until I uploaded the photos to the computer that I worked out that I had captured these little guys in the process of procreation. Well, I'm pretty sure that's what's happening here. I have a feeling that they might have also eaten away the edge of that leaf. Focusing: Concentrate | Come Together | Focal Point Gee a prompt where I knew what I wanted to take photos of. I thought this one was a good excuse to practice some macro shots and work on really nailing a sharp focus. I've often seen amazing close ups of animal's eyes and decided to give that a go. What I now would like to know is: how do they keep a cat still long enough to take a photo, let alone get the eye in really sharp focus? It probably didn't help that I disturbed Oliver from his sleep to shove a macro lens up close to his face. But he's a pretty good sport. I like the look Oliver is giving here - definitely falls into the concentrate category, although I really think he was trying to pretend I wasn't there and doing the usual cat thing of ignoring me. ISO 320, 100mm, f/2.8, 1/160 sec ISO 250, 100mm, f/2.8, 1/160 sec ISO 400, 100mm, f/2.8, 1/125 sec Oliver, still trying to pretend I'm not around and thinking about going back to sleep. Except the camera kept making noises. And then there was Bella. She was pretty compliant and quite happy to sit for me. Did I say sit? She's actually lying on the ground and that's what her chin is resting on - it's a hard life. The main problem in taking photos of Bella was Zimi bouncing around letting me know it was getting close to play time. I did like the focus on her eye here and you can even see the individual eyelashes. Ah, she's such a beautiful girl. ISO 1600, 100mm, f/2.8, 1/160 sec
As usual I took a heap of photos and now can't decide so I've gone ahead and uploaded all of the ones I narrowed it down to. Please feel free to let me know which one you like. And off to make dinner. No new recipe or food photography tonight. I should get to eat early. Night all! Lively: Energetic | Active | Bubbly With a prompt like this what else could I do but take a photo of the dogs playing! Bella is getting older but we're convinced that having Zimi around has helped keep her active - along with chasing the ball, which she just loves to do, even if it is in smaller doses these days. Now that the children have gone back to school it won't be long before the footy starts up again, so I thought this prompt would also provide me with an opportunity to get out the telephoto zoom lens and practice my action shots. Good thing I did too. They were terrible!! Of all the ones I took of Bella, this would be the best of them and I'm surprised her eye is actually in focus. It is always difficult when I'm trying to throw the ball and then get the camera up to focus - Bella is surprisingly fast for her age. Anyway I had a look at them all, decided on this one, edited it and prepared it for the blog so I could get it up on the right day, and for uploading onto the CY365 gallery in the morning. (I tend to put it up in the morning, as most of the people are in the Northern Hemisphere and I feel otherwise it gets up too early or mixed in with the previous prompt). It wasn't until Bella and Zimi were playing together later on, and I grabbed the camera again to take some photos, that it finally dawned on me that I hadn't even bothered to check the lens settings - duh! No wonder they didn't work out. I had the aperture way too slow for action shots and I really needed to boost the shutter speed as well. So I've taken some more and if any of them are ok, I'll post them in the morning. In the meantime it's goodnight from me. ISO 3200, 160mm, f/22, 1/80 - terrible settings - next time I'll check before I shoot!
Caring: Connection | Friendship | Family Guess what time it is? These two suddenly become wide awake, totally alert and ready for action. Yes, it would be ball o'clock! I'm not sure they were totally impressed with the idea that I wanted them both to sit at the same time so that I could take a photo. And to be taking photos on their time! I really am their best friend at this time of day. Aren't they just gorgeous! In my digital files on the computer there are heaps of gorgeous family photos that I would have like to put up for this prompt, but you know the deal, I'm trying to put up photos that I've taken specifically for the prompt and on the day. Steve was at work so I couldn't round him up to participate. Sometimes Bella and Zimi have lovely quiet moments (yes, it really does happen) where they cozy up to each other and I thought that would work for connection, caring etc, but today wasn't one of those days, or perhaps I just missed it. You know, they really are part of my family - my fur babies. Who else would I talk to when there are no humans around? I've spent quite a bit of time over the last little while updating this website and adding new pages. I think I've just about got it where I'm happy with it. Have a look around and let me know what you think. Now if someone could please tell me how to add the code so that I can put a Pinterest pin on the bottom of each photo I would be really appreciative. And for a change I'm early and I'm going to have a light easy dinner and relax for the evening. Hope you have all had a most wonderful of days. Night from Yatala! |
