Gone Fishin' : Fish | From Behind | Fishing PoleThere was no way I have anything remotely connected to fishing. The other part of the email was considering 'negative space' in the composition of a photograph. That's the space that surrounds the subject leading the viewer's eye into the scene and to the subject of the photograph. I went out with the telephoto zoom lens to try and get a photo of a bird from behind with negative space around it, but couldn't get the birds to co-operate. To add to that was the amount of branches that interfered with the negative space. In the end I took quite a lot of photos of this cockatoo. This is From the side and upside down. It is on its way to get some food out of the feeder. I can't quite work out why it didn't just fly down to the dish instead of climbing down the chain but it did give me the opportunity to take plenty of photos. I also took this one of a galah, which has more negative space - it just wasn't as close. Hmm, now I wonder if I should have chosen it?
GalahsI noticed these two galahs around the bird feeder the other afternoon and they were good enough to not fly away as soon as I got slowly closer to them with the camera (which they tend to do). I managed to get these two fairly focussed shots of the bird flying back down to the feeder. I was pretty happy with them. Just another couple that I liked.
In The Shade: Under The Umbrella | Cool Down | RelaxIt's been pretty much a construction zone for the past week and even though the retaining wall is finished, the yard is now dirt and rock. Our outside furniture has been living inside so that it wouldn't get too dusty, the pool area is out of bounds and so there is very little that would fall into a 'relaxing space'. And it's cold. So there is no need to be cooling down or relaxing under a shady beach umbrella. I was out doing the usual afternoon activities when I noticed some lorikeets in one of our bushes near the house. As soon as I moved to get the camera they took off, but it reminded me I needed to do my photo for the day. I had the telephoto lens on and saw this cockatoo in our front yard. It was a bit wary of me as I got closer - that's the little head tilt you can see. I took a few shots through the fence, but by the time I got to where I would have an unobstructed view it flew away. We actually had some of the 'golden hour' as you can see by the warmth in the light. Not completely on prompt but I'm running it. Now to choose which one. I hope that you have a wonderful weekend ahead of you.
The Chicken or the Egg?: Just Because | A comparison | Seasonal
Well I haven't bought any Easter eggs yet - that's on the still to do list (gee that's a long list!). So I decided to go literal for this prompt. Seeing there are no roosters in our chicken home the chicken definitely comes before the eggs. However, as it's getting cooler the egg production is slowly down drastically. This is Henny. Isn't she gorgeous! And I don't think there's very much more I can say about this prompt. Comical: Funny | Amusing | Humorous
Well, all out of creative ideas for this one so I took some photos of the rainbow lorikeets. In The Frontyard: Outside | On Location | A Grassy Area I decided to run with a real life photo for today's prompt. Every morning after we get back from our daily walk (that is, Bella, Zimi and me) I put out birdseed for the wild birds. The feeder is in the front yard away and separated by a fence: away from the dogs who sometimes like nothing more than to chase the birds away - just for fun. We have a pretty constant supply of a variety of birds, the main ones being rainbow lorikeets. I haven't taken any photos of them for awhile, so decided today was the day to do so. The lorikeets generally don't seem to be too afraid of people, and usually I can get quite close to them. Even so I have used my telephoto lens to get these closeup shots, and I have cropped the photos just to emphasise their detail. We had a little light rain this morning and it was amusing to see these birds all fluffed up with wet feathers. What actually caught my eye while I was watching them this morning was these two who were busy grooming each other. This isn't something I normally see. Aren't they such beautifully coloured birds? Here's hoping for a little more rain tonight and into the rest of the week. Everything is becoming brown again and I'm back into watering those new plants that are particularly susceptible at the moment.
Well that's the blog done, and on time, so it must be time to wish you all goodnight. Night all! Upset: Well I'm totally off prompt for Day 20's prompt! We were having breakfast and had the sprinkler going. There were four or five of these Noisy Miners (Manorina melanocephala) having a wonderful time flying through the spray of the sprinkler and then returning to the fence to have a good shake and clean, and then flying back through the spray. They really looked like they were enjoying themselves. The camera was down in the office in the shed and I thought for sure by the time I got to the office and then back again and changed lenses to the telephoto zoom that they would be gone. But no, they continued playing for quite a while. I much preferred taking a photo of something that made me smile, rather than something to fit in with the prompt of Upset.
