A Food | A Friend | A Find
One of the daily prompts going back a couple of weeks. This prompt was about adding context to the shot, to help provide the complete story of whatever it might be that you are photographing.
I bought this set of three containers a few weeks back at one of those home parties you get invited to, and go, even if you don't particularly want to! Anyway I did like this set of three ceramic containers for coffee, sugar and tea and they now sit on my kitchen bench. I've had them in mind for awhile for this prompt and today was the day. I am now happily ensconced in front of my computer about to get back into sorting and editing footy photos. What better way then a nice hot cup of coffee and a couple of crackers.
I was looking for some sort of quote to go with this post and ended up on a site that provided a snapshot of the history of coffee - and what an interesting history it has. Can you believe coffee houses were going to be banned several centuries ago?
On December 29, 1675, King Charles II issued A Proclamation for the Suppression of Coffee Houses. In it he banned coffeehouses as of January 10, 1676, since they had become "the great resort of Idle and disaffected persons" where tradesmen neglected their affairs. The worst offense, however, was that in such houses "divers false malitious and scandalous reports are devised and spread abroad to the Defamation of his Majestie's Government, and to the Disturbance of the Peace and Quiet of the Realm." An immediate howl went up from every part of London. Within a week, it appeared that the monarchy might once again be overthrown—and all over coffee. On January 8, two days before the proclamation was due to take effect, the king backed down. https://www.nytimes.com/books/first/p/pendergrast-grounds.html
A cool, overcast day here today - that's not right - it's supposed to be spring. Ah well if we get some rain, it will be good.
And with that my cup is empty ...
