All these tiny little green things are hopefully going to all become mangoes, and this is just one flower head. At the moment the tree is really covered in potential fruit. Once they get bigger we'll cover as many as we can to protect them from the birds, but the birds will still have plenty from the top of the tree where we can't reach to cover them.
Oh, I am looking forward to next year when the mangoes will be ripening and ready for eating.

Can't wait for mango season! Can you hire some scaffolding to reach the top of the tree??

You do realise that it will now get really windy and you will lose an awful lot of them. I am starting to think we have more on the ground than in the tree. Been blowing a gale up here. And mine are much bigger than yours :). Difference in temperatures I guess.

It could also be a different type of mango? These always ripen around end of January and into Feb. We've been having some really windy days as well - maybe because they're still small they haven't fallen off - fingers crossed. But I know I'll lose some and the birds get a heap but we should still get enough to keep us going :-)

Yes maybe they are different as that's a long time difference. We need a mango expert to tell us. Ours are Kensington pride (we planted the tree many moons ago). We lose lots to birds, bats and possums, but as only Bob and I eat them, there's plenty to go around. Oh, and Hugo loves mangoes as well so have to beat him to the ones that fall from the tree.

Hi Ann - just looked up Australian mango varieties and now have a list of possible suspects :-)
