Imagination | Fancy | Miniature
I've been seeing quite a few "fairy gardens" on Pinterest lately when I've been looking around at landscape designs, and it was the first thing that came into my mind for this prompt. The fairy gardens are so cute - little miniature make-believe worlds, however, with four grandsons, I don't see they would be much of a hit if I made one here.
The past couple of weeks have found me working on creating a cottage garden around our patio area. We've never really liked all the grass that was there, and it was always something I was going to get to, one day. The landscape overhaul that came about because the pool fence wouldn't shut, as the retaining wall was collapsing, meant the opportunity to get rid of the grass came sooner than planned. And besides, there was no grass left after the bobcats and excavators had been in. It was pretty desolate looking.
For some reason I had in mind that I wanted to create a cottage garden; not that I really had any idea of exactly what a cottage garden meant, or consisted of, but it sounded kind of nice. I'm not really a flower person and have always tended to plant flowering shrubs and grasses, but I've taken a chance and have planted 'flowers' as I thought they went in a cottage garden. I've just looked up 'cottage garden' and it seems I am on the right track - a full description from Wikipedia can be found by clicking here but basically they're informal, eclectic, have a 'natural' feel to them, rather than be formal and organised. Definitely my gardening style!
But back to the prompt. I decided to take a couple of shots of the new gardens from a low perspective and play around in the processing to give the photos a more magical, fairyland feel. I'm looking forward to seeing what this area looks like in a year's time. I guess by then I'll have an idea of which plants are going to work for me in this area.
Another weekend over. Gee they go by all too quickly. Hope you all had a fulfilling and enjoyable weekend and have a great week ahead of you. Take care.
