Apparently March 2 is Dr Seuss's birthday, hence the reasoning behind the daily prompt. Another photo I left until quite late in the day to take, so I ended up doing this just before we headed to bed to read. Steve tried to help me get the hat on Oliver, but as you can probably tell by his expression, he really wasn't terribly fussed on the whole idea.
I didn't take too many shots and for some reason they all looked really dark on the back of the camera, even when I opened the aperture and put an extra light source onto Oliver. It was getting late so I didn't worry too much, and figured I'd just deal with whatever photo looked the best on the computer once they were uploaded.
When I uploaded them, they were all really dark, and increasing the exposure only served to give them a really weird colour - actually I'm going to upload a before shot of this ... back soon. Right here is the original. As you can see, it needed a bit of work done to it. That was when I checked my camera settings - a bit late you might think - and discovered that they were on manual. That means the camera was waiting for me to set all the settings and it simply takes the shot without making adjustments. Meanwhile I thought the camera was on aperture priority, where all I have to set is the aperture. No wonder they were all so dark as I hadn't given the camera the information it needed. Ah well.
Actually looking at the settings they aren't too bad in themselves I think what may have been missing was the metering.
