Ah, my favourite - a self portrait. Well, no it really isn't a favourite part of the CY365 for me. I much prefer to be behind the lens than in front. Unfortunately there's one per month and today is the day. I never know how to set up the shot, and I'm not really into deep and meaningfuls at the moment - you know, trying to express oneself or personality through the photo.
So here it is. A selfie taken on the iPhone; trying to get into a position that didn't create too many wrinkles, double chins, and other obvious signs that I am no longer 18! I'll have to get back to you with the post processing as it's on the main computer down in the office and I'm doing this from the laptop in the house, but there was some cropping and I changed the angle.
Today ended up being a sad one for me. We are having some really hot days at the moment, high temps and hot winds. Today got to 44C, according to our outside thermometer. I checked on my chickens several times, made sure they had plenty of water both in the coop and in the run (even added ice), opened the door to the coop to try and let in as much breeze in as possible, and hosed down the dirt so that it would be cool to scratch in. There's plenty of shade in their area. All were panting, but seemed ok when I went out with some food around 2:30, but Edwina was in her nesting box. She came out when she saw me come with the food, and I saw her head back in as I was leaving. I found her dead later in the afternoon. What I suspect may have happened is that she stayed too long in the very hot coop and in the nesting box where there was no breeze and it was just too much for her. Hers was the last egg as the others had all laid earlier in the day. I posted on Facebook and was so touched at how many people expressed their concern and thoughts.
