Oh, my favourite thing - self portraits. You do hear the sarcasm in my voice as you read this - don't you. At least it was one I could do in the shadows as the prompt was all about setting the camera for a low light situation. And I kind of, sort of, had an idea of what I was after for this self portrait; pretty similar to the umbrella shot with a light behind me to give a silhouette effect.
Sometimes there's quite a bit of ad-libbing to do when setting up a shot when you don't have all the photographic bits and pieces like reflectors and proper studio lighting. I had to wait until it was dark enough and then find a lamp, set the camera at the correct distance to get all of me in, work out where the lamp was so that I could hide it with my body and then hopefully get a shot that was in focus - although with the light behind me I didn't have to worry too much about getting a clear sharp focus on my eyes, as long as most of me wasn't blurred.
I was up and down many times trying out different positions, and moving myself to hide the lamp as I managed to get it in the photo a few times. I set the camera for a 10 second delay to give myself time to push the shutter button and get into position. Then it was back up again to the camera to have a look at the shot on the little screen and push the shutter for the next attempt. Next on my wish list I think will be a remote shutter release cable.
Anyway I've had fun playing around in Lightroom and that's my self-portrait done for this month. Can you believe we are already a month into 2014. Another year that's just going to zoom by. Remember to slow down and enjoy the every day moments that make up your daily life. And with that, it's night from me. Enjoy your Sunday!
