Resourcefulness: Skillful | Ingenious | Initiative
I'm stretching this prompt quite a bit. Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the United States and in the world and the set the scene for other national parks to be established.
Early in 1872, the US Congress moved to set aside 1,221,773 acres of public land straddling the future states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho as America's first national park. President Grant signed the bill into law on this day in 1872. The Yellowstone Act of 1872 designated the region as a public "pleasuring-ground," which would be preserved "from injury or spoilation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders within." Congress went on to designate dozens of other national parks, and the idea spread to other nations around the world.
These buildings are part of historic Fort Yellowstone. Beginning in 1886 the Cavalry was called upon to manage the park’s resources and visitors. After five cold, harsh winters they built Fort Yellowstone, a permanent post.
