The first thing I thought of for this prompt was lost treasure and a treasure map marking the spot where the treasure could be found. I have this little jewellery box, so put a necklace in it, a couple of coins and set it up in the sandpit. I had made a little map with burnt edges and writing, but Zimi thought it would be fun to take it and see whether it was food or not. By the time I was ready to take the photo, the map was rather mangled. Thanks Zimi!

Step Outside: Natural | Outdoor | In The Street I knew that the self portrait prompt is on the first of the month, so I took a few photos of myself while I was making some cupcakes yesterday afternoon, in preparation for the prompt. When I checked the actual prompt I discovered that the theme was Step Outside; nothing at all to do with being inside baking patty cakes! Out with the camera this morning to rectify this. So why not take the opportunity to put on a pretty dress while I'm at it seeing that it had to be a self portrait? The old shorts and t-shirt I was wearing were great for around the yard, but not so for a photo shoot. Out came this soft, pink, floral dress that I've had forever - well, for at least 12 years. The next problem was how was I going to pose and where. As usual, I tried a variety of poses and settings. You know, it's really quite difficult to get a nice, focussed shot when you don't have something to set your focus on before you start. There was a lot of going backwards and forwards to the camera to try and get me in focus. Thank goodness for the 10 second delay button although once I didn't quite get into position and there was a rather blurry shot! Anyway this ended up being the one I liked best. To get this effect in post production I've hit the clarity slider pretty hard, used one of my all time favourite onOne presets, and then done a heap of tweaking until I got the result I was after. And that's the self-portrait done for another month. ISO 100, 32mm, f/4.0, 1/320 sec
A Little Heart: Sentiment | Candy | Decor Not so long ago I struggled with the prompt for heartfelt as I didn't have anything in the way of hearts. Along comes this prompt and again I have no idea - I still don't have many things in the house that have hearts on them. So I decided to go with sentiment. Again, there was a problems that i've used quite a few of my old things for other prompts. Then I thought about my old jewellery box from way back when, that has some bits and pieces in it - a mesh disco bag, First communion medal, rosary beads, medals from tap and modern dancing exams, a school badge and so forth. From there I remembered that mum had given me some of her cameos (at least that's where I think I got them from). I pulled out the jewellery box that lives in the safe and sure enough I had a cameo brooch, a ring and earrings. I think the ring and the brooch were mum's but I have no idea how old they might be - mum?? ISO 640, 100mm, f/8.0, 1/125 sec
Would you believe I finally came across a heart shaped piece of jewellery, and one I had completely forgotten about. A little heart shaped pendant with a bluebird on it. Bluebirds must have been quite popular when I was young as I also have two bluebird brooches: perhaps something I can hand down. A Horse: Year of The Horse | 4217 | Red Envelopes Thank goodness my next door neighbour has two horses. I wandered over there this afternoon and took a few photos of her horses. The light wasn't the best - it was dull and overcast - and my focusing wasn't spot on. These were some that I liked. I may try for a couple more tomorrow morning as I head out on my walk and see if I can get something better. Actually it's the first time I've photographed horses so I probably need to spend a bit more time trying different angles and perspectives in order to do these beautiful animals justice. Such stunning creatures. It was hard to get a good photo of the black miniature horse, especially in this afternoon's light - must try again another day, I think. I do hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend ahead of them whatever you may be doing, wherever you may be.
Secure: Capture | Self Confident | Locked The first idea that came to my mind for this prompt was to find a really old fashioned padlock and key. Unfortunately neither were available to me, so I went wandering around the house to see what I could find that might fit what I was looking for. I eventually came across this - not quite the old padlock, but this lock is definitely old and once upon a time I imagine it secured quite a few things. ISO 400, 100mm, f/5.0, 1/125 sec
This is the keyhole that used to lock my fathers old 'port' or suitcase. I'm not sure what he used this port for, but when it came into my possession it held some very old sheet music - a lot of which I still have. I took the first couple of shots with the cobwebs as they were on the lock and then removed them for the other shots. I liked the cobwebs - they added some more to the story - so I have ended up going with the first shot I took. Umbrella: Protection | Oversight | Under Cover We had quite a bit of light rain through the day (my plants and the grass are ever so thankful), so I put my umbrella out hoping to capture some rain drops splashing onto it. However, it wasn't really 'raining', more of a light drizzle really. So after taking heaps of photos of my umbrella from different angles and perspectives, I didn't particularly like any of them. What I really wanted was someone (that would be Steve) standing in the rain holding an umbrella with the light behind him - a silhouette type effect. That meant I had to wait until it was dark enough to set the shot up. Thankfully it was still drizzling by the time it was dark. We didn't have any spotlights that I could put out into the rain, so we ended up using the spotlight that sits up high on the garage and shines outwards towards the shed. I also didn't have a lot of time to stand taking photos as even thought it wasn't heavy rain, I didn't want my camera to get too wet. The shot isn't as sharp as I would have liked, but I don't think it matters too much. I've played around with it in Lightroom to give it a more textured and dark, grungy feel. In the original photo the bits and pieces of stuff that live in a garage could be seen, but I've managed to darken them so that the focus is on the umbrella, the rain and Steve's outline. I like the streaks of rain coming down. Yeah, overall, happy with how this one turned out. ISO 3200, 50mm, f/1.8, 1/25 sec
