Animal | Winged | Night
This prompt of Bats goes way back to the Halloween theme from October. There were no bats around that I've noticed and we don't really do Halloween, so that prompt really wasn't going to happen. However, the sub themes of winged made me think of getting some type of bird photo - although I do have quite a few of them.
Early this morning while wandering around the garden with my coffee I spotted this butterfly. I haven't seen many up close that have stayed in one place long enough for me to get my camera, change lenses and then get back without it having flown away. However, I had success this morning. This is a male Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio aegeus) and is the largest butterfly seen in Brisbane. It's wingspan is 120mm (thank you Google). I'm now wondering if the caterpillars are the ones that have been having a great feed on my kale.
Their food plants are citrus and I found this one on our mandarine tree before he moved over to the lemon tree.
