This is one of the recent CY365 prompts. It pretty much captures what this year feels like to me, so far. It's been one of those years, that, while there was never any particular plan in place, hasn't been anything like what I expected it to be.
What was supposed to be a quick fix to maintain the retaining wall near the pool, has somewhere along the line turned into major landscape renovations, which have taken up most of our spare time. Most? Let's make it all of our spare time. This small project started not long after we got back from the USA and Canada, and is still going. We had plans of going for weekly hikes up at Binna Burra, getting back into our running a few times a week to be ready for the Bridge to Brisbane, getting back to painting, the list continues. Perhaps once this has finished ...
I'm sure the end is in sight ... somewhere in the not too distant future. However, it should be ready for the swimming season (it is going to warm up, right?). There will definitely be a pool party or more to christen the new surrounds!
The email that came with the prompt also talked about using black and white as a composition tool: Converting an image to black and white removes competing elements, helping balance the action. We are drawn to the spot of movement and motion. We tell a different story.
In the colour version of this shot, the background was a lot more obvious, which took away from the main theme, or subject, of the photo. Once again I have used my dad's old set of scales to highlight the concept of balance and I think there is also balance between the black and white tones in the image.
